Buffalo Bill’s Reopens: Back In Business

Buffalo Bill's Reopening - first impression and review 2024

Oh, did you hear about Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino in Primm getting a bit of a facelift? Yeah, the place shut its doors back on November 29, 2010, and didn’t welcome guests again until Christmas Eve that same year.

That’s almost four weeks of downtime. They weren’t just twiddling their thumbs, though; they were busy giving the whole place a makeover. We’re talking all 1,242 rooms getting spruced up, plus parts of the casino getting some love too.

During the reno, everything from the gaming floors to the shops, eateries, and even the Desperado roller coaster was off-limits. Can you imagine?

But hey, at least the Star of the Desert Arena kept the lights on, keeping the entertainment rolling while the rest of the place was getting polished up.

And guess who’s behind all this? Herbst Gaming – yep, the same folks who run Whiskey Pete’s and Primm Valley Resort. Looks like they wanted to make sure Buffalo Bill’s stayed in the game by giving it a fresh look.

Herbst Gaming, which operates Buffalo Bill’s, also operates the other two casinos/hotels in Primm: Whiskey Pete’s Hotel & Casino and Primm Valley Resort.

Complete Renovations & Their Consequences

Hotel guests who made reservations at Buffalo Bill’s during the renovation period were moved to either of the two other properties. Whiskey Pete’s and Primm Valley Resort have a combined 1,501 rooms.

The renovations at Buffalo Bill’s include remodeled guest rooms and energy–efficient light bulbs in Buffalo Bill’s interior.

A Denny’s Restaurant is being added replacing the property’s coffee shop. About 250 employees who work at Herbst Gaming’s properties in Primm have been affected by the closure.

Some will take vacation days while others are being furloughed. This is unfortunately a sad reality that I’ve had to face myself a few times here.

The closure has allowed Herbst Gaming to condense operations. Late fall and winter since those seasons tend to be a slower time of year for visitors to Primm.

My Experience With Buffalo Bill’s

Oh, let me tell you about my recent trip to Buffalo Bill’s in Primm, Nevada. It was quite the adventure, kind of like stumbling into an old Western movie but with modern twists.

First off, the vibe of the place is something else. It’s like stepping into a cowboy’s dream, complete with a giant neon cowboy out front that makes you feel like you’re about to walk into a wild west theme park.

Checking into the hotel, I was half expecting to see tumbleweeds rolling down the hallway, but instead, I got this cool, comfy room that was a nice mix of the old west and modern comfort. And those beds? Like sleeping on a cloud made of marshmallows, I kid you not.

The real kicker for me, though, was the Desperado roller coaster. That thing is a beast! It’s like they decided to slap a coaster in the middle of the desert just for kicks. I rode it twice, screamed my lungs out both times, and would totally do it again. There’s something surreal about flying through the air with the desert landscape blurring by.

And let’s talk food. The addition of Denny’s was a lifesaver for my late-night cravings. Pancakes at midnight? Yes, please. It’s the kind of comfort food you need after a day of casino fun and thrill rides.

Speaking of the casino, it’s got that classic vibe but with all the modern games you’d want. I’m not a huge gambler, but I tossed a few coins into the slots and actually came out a little ahead. Felt like hitting a mini jackpot, which was pretty sweet.

The vibe throughout Buffalo Bill’s is just right. It’s not too over the top, but it’s got enough character to make it memorable. Between the comfort of the rooms, the thrill of the coaster, and the convenience of late-night pancakes, it was an experience that hit all the right notes for me.

Buffalo Bill’s might not be the biggest name on the Strip, but it’s got a charm that’s hard to beat, especially if you’re cruising through Primm!
