Just a couple hundred yards from my home, this golfing haven features two world-class courses that the legendary Tom Fazio, a name synonymous with excellence in golf course design, has meticulously crafted.
The Primm Valley Golf Club boasts the Lakes Course and the Desert Course, each offering a unique blend of natural beauty and golfing challenge
The courses are laid out with gently undulating fairways, vibrant greens, and serene water features, all set against the dramatic backdrop of the desert mountains.
The Lakes Course
Back in 1997, the year the Lakes Course opened here in Primm, it wasn’t just the local community that took notice.
Golf Digest magazine hailed it as one of the Top Ten Best New Golf Courses that very year, and let me tell you, the accolades were well-deserved.
This par-71 course stretches over 6,945 yards of impeccably maintained green rye grass. It’s generous with its fairways and boasts outstanding greens, groves of tall pine trees, and a vast system of lakes and streams.
The beauty of the Lakes Course is its striking contrast to the arid desert that surrounds Primm. It’s like stepping into an oasis where the challenges of the game meet the tranquility of water and greenery. And speaking of challenges, water hazards make an appearance on eleven out of the eighteen holes, demanding skill and strategy from golfers.
Fast forward to 2021, and the recognition continues. GolfPass ranked the Primm Valley Lakes as the 14th best course in Nevada. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal and quality of the course, making it a cherished destination for golf enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
The Desert Course
The Desert Course Opened in 1998. It Is More Typical of Southwestern Style Golf Courses and Is Very Different from The Lakes Course. The course Is Slightly More Demanding, Measuring 7,131 Yards with A Par of 72.
The fairways are narrow with elevation changes and the greens are well bunkered with lots of sand. Palm trees, mesquite trees, colorful cacti and wildflowers line the beautiful course.
Despite its desert theme, water still comes into play on five of the eighteen holes.
The golf club is technically in California with a Nipton address. However, with its Primm name and proximity to the state line, it has much more of a Nevada identity.
In fact, the course has hosted the Nevada Class 5A state high school golf tournament. The course has good ratings and is challenging, yet playable.
Rates and Packages
Primm Valley Golf also offers professional instruction, practice facilities, a full–service restaurant and lounge, a modern clubhouse and upscale amenities.
Rates for either course are typically between $65 and $125 per person for 18 holes, depending on the season.
I took the 125$ one, and it was worth every penny.
They also offer group rates and may offer special promotions such as kids play free with a paying adult. The courses are located at 31900 Las Vegas Blvd. S.
